Pegasus Airlines delay and cancellation compensation

Checked 10 min read · 4 tables

Leave a UK airport on Pegasus Airlines and land 3 hours or more late, and UK261 puts £220, £350 or £520 per passenger on the table; from an EU airport, EU261 pays €250, €400 or €600. A cancellation at short notice pays the same bands, extraordinary circumstances aside. A separately booked flight out of Türkiye falls outside both.

#When do UK261 and EU261 cover a Pegasus Airlines flight?

TUR-0004 is the number PEGASUS HAVA TASIMACILIGI A.S. carries on the EASA third-country operator list, and no CAA Type A licence stands behind it. Cover under both Regulations therefore starts at the gate: UK, EU, Icelandic, Norwegian or Swiss airports. Flights inbound need an EU licence for EU261, a UK or EU one for UK261.

Only the first two rows can pay.

Every passenger leaving an airport inside the territory is covered by article 3(1)(a), whoever the airline is. Fly the other way on a booking of its own, out of Istanbul, and nothing fixed is owed even at 5 hours late, because PEGASUS HAVA TASIMACILIGI A.S. is a third-country operator. A return bought apart from the outbound sits in the same place.

Read the departure airport off each boarding pass before you claim.

#How much does Pegasus Airlines owe for a 3-hour delay from a UK or EU airport?

£220, £350 or £520 per passenger is what UK261 sets once a Pegasus Airlines departure from a UK airport leaves you 3 hours or more late at your final destination; the EU261 figures from an EU airport are €250, €400 or €600. Two steps, at 1,500 km and 3,500 km, split the bands, and great-circle distance decides.

Article 7(2) says “may”, which leaves the £260 and €300 steps to Pegasus Airlines. Past 4 hours the full £520 or €600 falls due. Below 3,500 km a delay carries no reduced step at all.

Lateness under UK261 is counted to the moment passengers may leave the aircraft. Land 2 hours 59 minutes down and nothing is owed; at 3 hours 0 minutes the band amount is due, extraordinary circumstances apart. Cancellation with under 14 days' notice pays those same bands unless the replacement fits the article 5(1)(c) windows, or extraordinary circumstances explain it (UK261 delay and cancellation guide).

Halving is where a cancellation parts company with a delay. Article 7(2) lets the airline pay half when re-routing brings you in within 2, 3 or 4 hours of the original arrival, by band. The CAA’s cancellation table prices a 1,500-3,500 km flight cancelled on 7 to 14 days' notice, replacement leaving over 2 hours early, at £350 from 3 hours late and £175 below it.

Our own great-circle figures put London Stansted to Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen at about 2,520 km and Berlin to Sabiha Gökçen at about 1,750 km: the £350 band under UK261, the €400 band under EU261.

Run your two airports through the compensation calculator.

#How does a connecting Pegasus Airlines journey via its hub count?

3 hours or more down at the final destination is the test on a single-booking Pegasus Airlines trip through Istanbul; what the clock said at the connecting airport does not matter. The trip still has to begin in the UK, the EU, Iceland, Norway or Switzerland, since a start in Türkiye buys no cover.

#How does UK261 count a one-booking journey via Istanbul?

A flight sold as a single unit has been read as one whole since 14 December 2023, article 3(1A) taking its departure point from the first airport. The Court of Appeal landed in the same place in Gahan v Emirates [2017] EWCA Civ 1530: on one booking out of an EU airport with a carrier from outside the EU, the delay that counts is the one at the final destination, a missed onward connection included. The UK was an EU Member State then, and lower courts in England and Wales follow the ruling.

By our great-circle calculation, Stansted to Izmir is about 2,570 km, so a one-booking Stansted-Istanbul-Izmir journey stays in the £350 band. An on-time landing at Istanbul changes nothing if you reach Izmir 3 hours or more late.

#How does EU261 count a one-booking journey via Istanbul?

The 3-hour threshold comes from Sturgeon (C-402/07 and C-432/07, 2009); Folkerts (C-11/11, 2013) reads that delay at the end of a connecting journey rather than at the stop in the middle. Distance to the final destination, measured great-circle, then picks the band.

By our great-circle calculation, Berlin to Izmir is about 1,890 km and Berlin to Sabiha Gökçen about 1,750 km, so the journey sits in the €400 band on either measure. Arriving at your final airport 3 hours or more late earns €400, whichever leg caused it.

Save the confirmation that lists both legs, and write down when the doors opened at the last airport.

#How do you claim compensation from Pegasus Airlines directly?

3 documents make up a Pegasus Airlines claim: the booking confirmation, the boarding passes, the message that told you about the disruption. They go to the airline first. Absent any AviationADR or CEDR listing, a UK261 dispute that stalls can move to the CAA’s Passenger Advice and Complaints Team, which cannot impose a solution.

A UK search for “pegasus flight compensation” on 15 September 2026 returned the airline’s passenger rights page, its help centre, its call centre contacts and its Case Questioning page. Open each dated link below again before you lean on it. Quote UK261 article 6(3) for a delay, 5(1)(c) for a cancellation, or EU261 article 7 when you left an EU airport.

After a cancellation the choice is yours: the money back within 7 days, a seat on the earliest re-routing, or a later date that suits you better.

#Where do you escalate a refused Pegasus Airlines claim from a UK flight?

8 weeks without a reply to your written complaint, or a reply you are not satisfied with, is when the CAA’s Passenger Advice and Complaints Team (PACT) may consider your UK261 case. Pegasus Airlines is not among the airline members the CAA lists for its two approved ADR providers, AviationADR and CEDR (lists checked 15 September 2026).

Source: CAA, Alternative Dispute Resolution for air passengers — caa.co.uk; CAA, How the CAA can help — caa.co.uk; AviationADR, Airline and airport members — aviationadr.org.uk; CEDR, Aviation overview — cedr-assist.com, checked 2026-09-15.

Complaints PACT is likely to look at are those about airlines outside an approved ADR body, and it drops any case with under a year left to sue. It gives you its view on the complaint, takes a valid one up with the airline, and holds no power to impose a solution. Its opinion carries no appeal, and the courts stay open, small claims track included. Our ADR scheme guide and ADR membership map place the other airlines.

#If Pegasus Airlines rejects your claim

2 limbs carry the definition in UK261 article 2(o). One covers a cause outside normal airline activity, beyond the carrier’s actual control and unavoidable even with all reasonable measures; the other covers an air traffic management decision that could not be avoided. Put the question to Pegasus Airlines in writing: which cause, and which measures. Even a refusal that holds up takes away the fixed payment alone, leaving care and re-routing owed (refused compensation guide).

Left from an EU airport? The complaint belongs to that country’s national enforcement body, named on the European Commission list of 27 August 2026. Court remains the alternative. Keep whatever Pegasus Airlines wrote to you last.

#How long do you have to claim against Pegasus Airlines?

6 years is what England and Wales allow for a UK261 claim against Pegasus Airlines, article 3(9) pointing at section 9 of the Limitation Act 1980; Northern Ireland lands on 6 years too. Scotland works to 5 years under the Prescription and Limitation (Scotland) Act 1973, with no ruling yet on the fit.

Source: Limitation Act 1980 s.9, Limitation (Northern Ireland) Order 1989 art. 4 and Prescription and Limitation (Scotland) Act 1973 s.6, read with UK261 art. 3(9) — legislation.gov.uk; Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 — eur-lex.europa.eu, checked 2026-09-15.

Article 3(9) arrived UK-wide with SI 2023/1370 on 14 December 2023, while section 9 of the 1980 Act reaches England and Wales alone. Either route still lands Northern Ireland on 6 years.

EU261 fixes no period itself: the departure country’s rules set it.

Keep to 5 years where a Scottish court might hear the claim, and check time limits by country.

Similar airlines: Turkish Airlines, also a third-country operator with the same departures-only rule; EgyptAir and Air India, both covered on UK and EU departures only; Wizz Air, covered as a UK air carrier or an EU carrier depending on which group entity operates your booking.

Not your situation? Leaving an EU airport: EU261; leaving a UK one: UK261; a Canadian itinerary: Air Passenger Protection Regulations; still unsure: which law covers my flight. Flying inside the US? Federal rules there work differently: see US DOT rules.

#FAQ

Stansted to Izmir, landing 3 hours late: what does Pegasus Airlines owe?
£350 a passenger. Stansted to Izmir is about 2,570 km on our own great-circle calculation, the middle UK261 band, and a one-booking trip through Istanbul is measured to Izmir rather than to the connection. Proven extraordinary circumstances remove the payment. Booked on its own, the Izmir to Stansted leg is not covered.
Pegasus Airlines cancelled my flight from an EU airport: what can I choose?
Three things, and the choice is yours: the ticket price back within seven days, a seat on the earliest re-routing, or re-routing on a later date that suits you. Article 8 gives it whatever caused the cancellation, and care while you wait comes on top. Compensation is a separate question.
How do I claim compensation from Pegasus Airlines?
8 weeks without a reply to your written complaint, or a reply you are not satisfied with, is when the CAA's Passenger Advice and Complaints Team may consider a UK261 claim, since Pegasus Airlines is not among the members the CAA lists for AviationADR or CEDR. Complaints about flights from EU airports go to the departure country's national enforcement body.
How long do I have to claim against Pegasus Airlines?
6 years applies in England, Wales and Northern Ireland for a UK261 claim against Pegasus Airlines, and 5 years under Scottish prescription law, though no Scottish court has yet ruled on how that applies. EU departures follow each country's own limitation rules, so check the deadline where you departed.
