> Report a missing easyJet bag on its Baggage Portal within 24 hours. easyJet calls a bag lost after 45 days; the Montreal Convention after 21 days.

# easyJet lost, delayed or damaged luggage: how to report it and claim

Report a delayed easyJet bag on its online Baggage Portal within 24 hours of your flight arriving; for a damaged bag, report and claim within 7 days of the flight. easyJet says it treats a bag as lost after 45 days. The Montreal Convention treats a checked bag as lost once it is 21 days overdue and limits the airline's liability to 1,519 SDR per passenger.

Compensation for a delayed or cancelled flight is a separate claim, covered on the [easyJet page](https://airtravelrights.com/airlines/easyjet/). Money back for a cancelled booking is on the [easyJet refund page](https://airtravelrights.com/airlines/easyjet/refund/).

## How do you report a delayed bag to easyJet?

24 hours from your flight's arrival is easyJet's window for reporting a delayed bag on the easyJet Baggage Portal. If the bag is missing from the Arrivals Hall and airport staff cannot help you retrieve it, file the report and travel on to your destination; easyJet says there is no need to wait at the airport.

easyJet says it manages delayed bags with the airport's Baggage Services Team and its partner First Flight. Its [baggage tracing contacts page](https://www.easyjet.com/en/baggage-tracing-contact-details) lists airport baggage teams, 22 UK airports among them. Keep a copy of your Baggage Portal report and any reference easyJet gives you. Separately, the CAA's complaint form asks for a property irregularity report (PIR) and itemised lists for baggage complaints; the [property irregularity report guide](https://airtravelrights.com/property-irregularity-report/) covers what a PIR records.

easyJet delayed baggage tracing runs in two stages. For the first 5 days, easyJet says its airport teams find more than 90% of delayed bags, and you can check the bag's status on the portal. Between day 6 and day 45 its Specialist Baggage Tracing team keeps looking. Once a bag is more than 5 days late, easyJet offers a chat with its Delayed Baggage Tracing Team, 08.30 to 20.00, Monday to Friday, UK time.

For Egypt and Morocco, easyJet says it cannot deliver delayed luggage: all luggage must be collected in person at the airport. Bags arriving in Gibraltar are not delivered to mainland Spain.

## When does easyJet treat a bag as lost?

45 days is how long easyJet searches before it calls a bag lost. Its help page says that after 45 days you are eligible for compensation, claimed online at easyjet.airlineluggageclaims.com, and that the amount depends on the contents of the bag and the receipts you hold as proof of purchase.

The Montreal Convention draws the line earlier. Under article 17(3), if the carrier admits the loss of a checked bag, or the bag has not arrived 21 days after the date it was due, you can treat it as lost. The 21 days is the legal line. easyJet's 45 days is its own tracing process.

An easyJet lost luggage claim does not have to wait out the 45 days. If the bag has not turned up 21 days after it was due, send easyJet a written claim for it, with your receipts and a list of what was inside, and keep tracing it on the portal. easyJet says that even after it declares a bag lost, it keeps the details on its system.

The rules behind the 21-day line are on the [Montreal Convention page](https://airtravelrights.com/montreal-convention/).

## What does easyJet pay for essentials while you wait?

£75 per person is the most easyJet's help page says it refunds for essential items when you are away from home and your bag is delayed 24 hours or more. It gives toiletries, basic clothing and over-the-counter medication as examples, and a claim is only valid with receipts for every purchase.

Send the receipts on easyJet's online form within 21 days of your flight. easyJet says it pays in pounds sterling, euros or other local currency. For anything beyond the allowance, it points you to your travel insurance provider.

easyJet's terms put it differently. Section 19 says that if your baggage is delayed for more than 24 hours on an outbound flight, you can spend up to £25 per day per person on essential items for a maximum of three days, claimed in writing on the online form within 21 days of the relevant flight with documentary evidence such as receipts. Three days at £25 also comes to £75, but the terms limit the allowance to outbound flights. The help page does not mention that limit.

Both figures are easyJet's own terms, not law. The legal ceiling sits in the Convention: 1,519 SDR per passenger covers delay of baggage as well as loss and damage. Buy only what you need straight away and keep every receipt.

## How do you claim for a damaged easyJet bag?

7 days from your flight is easyJet's deadline to complete a damage report and register the claim on its damaged luggage site, damagedluggage.com. Photograph the damage before you leave the airport: easyJet says photos taken later may not be accepted, and a report made in person at the airport still needs the online claim.

easyJet says it does not cover superficial or external damage such as scuffs and scratches, damage from overpacking, damage from water, rain or snow, or damage to fragile or perishable items inside the bag. It also says it cannot repair a non-UK resident's bag and offers a replacement instead.

Two clocks run. easyJet counts its 7 days from the flight. The Convention counts the written complaint for damage from the day you receive the bag: forthwith, and at the latest within 7 days. For delay, the written complaint is due at the latest 21 days from the date the bag was placed at your disposal. Without a written complaint in time, no action lies against the carrier, save in case of fraud. easyJet's terms (section 19) set the same two written deadlines: for damage, as soon as you discover it after receiving the bag and at the latest within seven days; for delay, within 21 days of the bag being made available to you. Meet easyJet's earlier date and you meet both.

Found the damage only once you got home? Complain to easyJet in writing straight away, inside the 7 days. Its terms list photographs of the damage as supporting documentation, so attach them.

## How much can you claim, and what if easyJet says no?

1,519 SDR per passenger is the Montreal Convention limit for destruction, loss, damage or delay of baggage, applying since 28 December 2024 unless you made a special declaration of interest. easyJet's terms still quote the pre-December-2024 figure of 1,288 SDR; that number is out of date and the Convention figure applies.

The limit does not apply if the damage resulted from an intentional or reckless act done with knowledge that damage would probably result (article 22(5)). easyJet's terms also accept a special declaration of a higher value, up to £2,500, at bag drop. Keep receipts and a list of what was packed: the [lost and delayed baggage compensation guide](https://airtravelrights.com/lost-delayed-baggage-compensation/) shows how to build the claim.

If easyJet rejects the claim or offers too little, complain to it in writing first. easyJet is an AviationADR member on the CAA's list, and its terms allow a referral to AviationADR within 12 months of easyJet's final response. The CAA's complaints team (PACT) handles Montreal Convention baggage complaints, but it says it is only likely to consider one if the airline is not a member of an approved ADR body. For easyJet, that makes AviationADR the route.

Court is the last step. The right to damages is extinguished if no action is brought within two years of arrival, of the date the aircraft ought to have arrived, or of the date the carriage stopped.

**Not your situation?** Left something on board rather than in the hold? easyJet says cabin crew hand it to ground crew, who pass it to its Baggage Services team, and lost property not collected within 24 hours goes to the airport's Lost Property office, so check with both your departure and arrival airports. For a bag lost on another airline, start with the [lost and delayed baggage compensation guide](https://airtravelrights.com/lost-delayed-baggage-compensation/). For a delayed or cancelled flight rather than a bag, see the [easyJet page](https://airtravelrights.com/airlines/easyjet/).
